The gap between the current weight and width restrictions governing farm equipment on roads and the realities of today’s farming operations continues to make news. We had alerted you to the ongoing issues with these laws at our Breakfast with Bakke Norman seminar and in a Farm Alert. A WQOW-TV piece on August 15 further highlighted the concerns. Tim O’Brien, who represents farmers challenging the current regulations, spoke about the problems facing farmers who bought equipment believing it could be legally operated on the roads.
The Department of Transportation is considering the rules and is holding town hall meetings around the state. In this area, a meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 3 from 7 – 8:30 pm at the Chippewa County Courthouse. Interested farmers are encouraged to attend.
